Over the past few years, I have been choosing a word of the year that helps guide me through the year. Since returning to Wicca I discovered that choosing a word of the year is actually a Yule activity so here is my Wiccan word of the year.
Choosing a word of the year
Choosing a Wiccan word of the year was much harder than my general word of the year as there were so many that resonated with me. It needs to be a word that you will use to make choices and really focus on for 2021. It should always be in the back of your mind, helping you move forward.
This year I have chosen the word, connect. I have chosen this word as I have felt very unconnected to things my whole life, but since returning to Wicca I feel like things are finally starting to make sense for me.
For most of my life, I have struggled. I am very emotional as I am naturally able to put myself in other people’s shoes and feel what they must be feeling. So whenever I watch films I end up a blubbering mess! I have a big heart that wants to love and be loved but I have also been crippled with low self-esteem and depression. Therefore I have not been able to make lasting friendships with anyone.
I have my own little family that I made with my husband who I do feel connected too and as wonderful as that is, it is not always enough. Luckily, over the last few years, I have worked through a lot of issues and my confidence has improved but I lack social skills that come naturally to others.
My hopes for using this word
I hope that by focusing on this word, I will be able to connect to people and maybe even make some liked minded lasting friendships. I hope to connect to my local pagan community if COVID allows!
Deepening my spiritual connections is also really important to me this year. After writing my own money spell and seeing the amazing results with my own eyes I know that I have the ability to do great things.
I have also been drawn to the moon throughout my life so I would like to strengthen my connection with the moon this year as well.
Tips for choosing and using your own word of the year
- Think about what your goals for the year are.
- Think about how the word you pick will be able to guide you.
- When faced with a decision that you are unsure of, go back to your word and let it guide your decision making.
- It does not have to make sense to other people, just to you.
- At the start of each month spend a few minutes thinking about how your word has helped you over the last month and any actions that you need to plan for the coming month to keep the word in your focus and achieve your goals.
