The fire element

Fire is something that we all take for granted, it is difficult to imagine a life without it. However, if there was no fire, then there would be no life on earth. The sun is the biggest fireball of all and it sustains life on earth. Fire warms us and is used to cook food to nourish us.

However, fire can also be destructive and take lives. It can be unpredictable and spreads fast. It consumes almost anything in its path and causes pain to those who are burned.

Connecting with the fire element

If you are new to the elements or you feel you have lost your connection with them, then there are ways to connect/reconnect with fire.

Note down where the sun rises and sets in relation to your home. Do you get sun at the front or back of your home in the mornings. How much shade is there from other houses, trees, etc. The sun is the ultimate fire source so it is good to know it’s movements. This information is also useful for when you are doing other magick too.

For a week, if it is possible to do so, sit and watch the sunrise each day. Even better if you can be outside to do this as you can experience the sun rays on your face.

Light a candle or bonfire and study the flames. Watch the way they dance and feel the heat as you put your hands near. Spend time thinking about this amazing element as you watch it burn.

Do something to ignite the fire within you. Suggestions for this are to exercise, have sex or do something that scares you. Reflect on how you felt when you could feel the fire in your soul.

Set up your altar to honour the fire element for a few weeks, using items from the altar representation list above. Sit at your altar for a few minutes each day and think about fire and what it means to you.
