11 Ostara activities to inspire your celebrations

Bake with eggs

Making egg-themed food is a great way to celebrate Ostara. You could make food that primarily contains eggs such as quiche, custard, and egg salad sandwiches. Alternatively, you could make food that relates to eggs such as chocolate nests with mini eggs inside or mini egg cookies.

Plant seeds

It is springtime, so what better time to plant flowers in your garden? If you planned your garden in an earlier sabbath celebration then now is the time to enact those plans and get planting.

Decorate your altar

Decorate your altar with Ostara-themed items. You can use Easter decorations which are readily available, Ostara crystals, spring flowers, rabbits or hares, decorated eggs, or pastel candles. However you decide to decorate, the most important thing is that you like it!

Spring clean your home

Most of us have heard the phrase, ‘spring cleaning’. Ostara is a great time to air out the house. Get rid of the cobwebs, dust, and stale air from having the home closed up over the colder months and let the sunshine in.

Visit a farm or zoo

Go and visit some baby animals and see new life. There is nothing more comforting than snuggling with baby animals! Being with animals is very relaxing and the fresh air will do wonders for you as well.

Do an Ostara themed Tarot spread

There are lots of these available online with a simple search engine or on Pinterest. I particularly liked this one from The Cracked Amethyst. Simple enough for those new to Tarot but also giving room for those who are more able.

Decorate eggs

Decorating eggs is such a great activity for Ostara. There are so many ways that you can do this and it is also great for kids to join in with too. You could simply paint your eggs or use markers. Perhaps, you could dye your eggs with natural dyes. You could even decoupage your eggs. You could make a lovely display with your finished eggs as well, just remember to drain your eggs before you decorate them if you would like to keep them.

Do an Ostara themed guided meditation

Again, these are easily found online for free. I love the one from The Peculier Brunette. It is very good and I really liked the trickling stream in the background. I also really like Roaming Yogi as her voice is so relaxing!

Get outside

As with all Pagan celebrations, one of the easiest ways to celebrate is to just get outside and be with nature! Go for a walk and see what signs of spring you can spot. How has the landscape changed since the last sabbath?

Bake hot cross buns

Another popular choice for baking is the hot cross bun. Many people associate these with Christians but we can use the cross on the buns to represent the four elements or the four quarters of the year.

Make protection powder

Eggshells ground down to a powder make a great protection powder to use in spells or sprinkle around the perimeter of your home for protection.
