All about roses

Roses have strong links with love and beauty throughout history. They have been cultivated for over 5000 years and there are over 150 different species. There have been countless poems that have used the rose to symbolise love, and Valentine’s day has seen the rose commercialised as a way to show affection.

Looking back through history there have been many examples of different civilisations using roses. It was said that Cleopatra would fill her room with roses whenever she was seeing Marc Anthony so that he would always think of her whenever he smelled roses.  The Romans were said to have grown rose gardens to symbolise their wealth and during Roman times, if a rose was hung above a door it symbolised confidentiality.
